Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started working as a TV and radio reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debates in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, tax reform and the budget, as well as the arms control. She traveled widely together with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
